Is there role for Social Media in Recruitment?

If you are a recruiter, you probably already have a marketing strategy in place, in order to attract qualified candidates. But does your marketing include social media? Many people think of social media outlets as a way to connect with old friends, and send funny stories about how their cat rolled over and fell off the porch. However, social media has developed to become much more than that. In fact, many business professionals are turning to sites like Facebook,Linkedin and Twitter to not only post jobs, but find them.

Posting a job on each social media site can be cumbersome and time consuming. Luckily, there are job boards, such as Googlyfish that will post jobs automatically to all of the social media networks. As a recruiter, you can create your own job channels on these networks; manage applications, post news about the company you are recruiting for, and much more. Your job posting will be seen by thousands of people and can be targeted to a specific area.

Make no mistake:social media is not a fad and it is not going away. Studies show that as of 2010, over 96% of people under the age of 25 have joined at least one social network. This means that in order to attract the best and the brightest candidates, social media should be a key part of your marketing strategy.
